Like many other moon bears who find themselves at the Animals Asia sanctuary in Vietnam, Claudia has known an enormous amount of suffering in her life. Claudia was born with a rare bone condition that has not been documented in any other species of bear. This condition prevents bones from solidifying all the way, making them highly prone to fractures and breaks. As a result, Claudia has been lame for quite some time.
But thanks to the amazing veterinary team at Animals Asia, this all changed for Claudia!
The vets were able to perform an operation where they inserted pins and titanium plates into her front legs to repair Claudia’s broken limbs. After three weeks of recovery, it looks like the surgery was a success and Claudia’s ability to walk has been restored!
Once she grows strong enough, she will be moved into a larger den fitted with little swings and toys for her to play with.
“Just seeing her lounging in her basket, looking completely content as she stares out to us over her folded arms, lets us know that it was all worthwhile,” said Jill Robinson, Animals Asia’s CEO and founder.
Good luck, Claudia!
