Severely Injured Bear Cub Refuses to Give Up on Returning to His Family in the Wild

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

The team at Orphaned Wildlife Center recently took in a baby bear who had been hit by a car and apparently lost his mother at the scene. The little cub was found unconscious but alive, although it was clear that he had survived the accident narrowly. He was immediately rushed to the veterinarian and it was discovered that the bear was suffering from head trauma, brain swelling, a severe concussion, and an injured leg.

After two days at the center, the baby bear was still in bad shape – unresponsive, unconscious, and making the rescuers worry more and more about what would happen next. But then, everything changed when the cub suddenly began to lick and suckle at a syringe of formula – proving that this little fighter is not going anywhere!

Little Bear or Vinny NuNu, as he was started to be called, began to improve. He was opening his eyes, moving some of his limbs, and after three days, he was well enough to eat tiny pieces of peach and other fruit.

The cub even started trying to stand up and is staying awake a little longer each day. His improvement is slow – but it is very much there and it makes everyone full of hope.

This incredible story soon developed further when the rescuers found out that, in contrast to what had been believed before, the little bear’s mother and siblings all survived the accident. This is great news for the cub because if he recovers well, it might be possible for Little Bear to be returned to the wild, back to his mother and family!

However exciting the possibility is, it is still too early to say what will be an option for the little bear – and whether he will survive at all. The cub requires 24-hour monitoring and is getting physical therapy every single day to strengthen his limbs. The team of carers now needs to build the bear a different enclosure more suitable to his needs and it needs to be done as soon as possible – the small animal enclosures are clearly not appropriate for the bear and he is too injured to go into a large bear cub one.

Because of that urgent need, the organization is desperately trying to raise funds to build the new house for the baby.

“An animal’s emotional well-being is as important as his physical well-being,” the team emphasizes. “At the Orphaned Wildlife Center, we do not just tend to their wounds, but their environment must also be inviting, and a place for them to be happy while they live here.”

The organization and Little Bear will appreciate every little bit of heart shown to the poor baby who is now so close to beginning his completely new life. You can Donate to the cause through its fundraiser page.
