Some heroes come on four legs and with soft fur. According to The Guardian, a man named Simon Steggall owes his life to Dory, his 10-kilogram Flemish giant rabbit who sensed danger when he slipped into a diabetic coma.

Steggall first met Dory as a baby bunny at a fair in 2002, not realizing that one day she’d save him. Normally calm, Dory became frantic when Steggall began losing consciousness—jumping, thumping, and licking his face until his wife realized something was wrong and called for help. Doctors later confirmed that without Dory’s quick actions, he likely wouldn’t have survived.

This incredible story reminds us that animals have emotional intelligence and instincts that science still struggles to explain. Studies have shown that dogs, cats, and even rabbits can detect changes in human scent or heart rate linked to illness or distress. Dory’s bond with her human wasn’t just affectionate—it was life-saving.

In recognition of her bravery, Dory was named the first honorary member of the Rabbit Welfare Association and became a local celebrity. Even after her passing, her story continues to inspire compassion for the wildlife we share this planet with.

Stories like Dory’s remind us that every creature has value and sensitivity beyond what we see. Treating animals with kindness and care helps protect the delicate balance of our environment and nurtures the bond that connects all life on Earth.
