Pet homelessness and overpopulation is a major problem across the world. In the U.S. alone, there are over 70 million cats and dogs living on the streets. Compounding this problem is the fact that the 3,500 shelters across the country are overcrowded and underfunded which places major limits on their ability to take in more animals and provide the care needed while they wait to be adopted.
As this video shows, these same problems with stray animals exist in Puerto Rico. Thankfully, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is working on the ground and with local animal control and law enforcement in the country to help manage the vast issue of dog homelessness. These countless pups are in need of a good home, proper medical treatment, and of course, love, which HSUS and their volunteers are doing their best to provide.
Seeing the dogs go from huddled in fear on the streets to happy and healthy is sure to bring a smile to your face. To support the incredible work that HSUS is doing in Puerto Rico, click here.
Thank you for helping those who cant help themselves…
