There is nothing that we love more than a good story featuring a kind human going above and beyond for an animal in need. We have become so accustomed to seeing stories of people abandoning animals or subjecting them to untold cruelty for the sake of their own gains that it is a true treat to see a genuine showing of compassion.

If you’re in need of a bit of a pick me up then look no further than the video above. According to reports, this group of fishermen was returning from an afternoon trip when they came across a six-point buck struggling to stay afloat in the middle of the Long Island Sound. While it is unknown how the deer ended up in this water, it was certain that he needed help.

In a bit of quick thinking, the group grabbed a rope and was able to hook the animal by its antlers and pull him closer to the boat. In a few moments, one of the men jumped out and pulled the animal to shore. Rob Kurdy, one of the men explained. “He was out in the middle of nowhere shivering and freezing, so we all said we just can’t let it drown. It was just the right thing to do.”

Once on land, they helped warm the animal up, after about three hours of rest he was back on his feet and happily scampered off. Thanks to the kind action of these men, this deer is safe and sound!
