Brave Firefighter Wades Into Frozen Pond to Rescue Injured Goose Who Was Trapped in Ice

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

As animal lovers, there is no length we wouldn’t go to to help an animal in need. We’ve seen many shining examples of everyday heroes jumping into action for animals – but this time, a goose rescued by the fire crews in Loudoun County, Virginia, had quite the luck thanks to brave firefighters.

The animal, which turned out to be either sick or injured, was found trapped on a frozen pond, completely unable to move. It took several attempts to retrieve the goose, but in the end, the stranded bird was saved thanks to the rescue team’s impressive action.

The goose was found stuck to the top of a frozen pond on the corner of South Riding Boulevard and Tall Cedars Parkway.

Fortunately, the Dulles South and Aldie Fire Departments were contacted. After several failed attempts at rescuing the goose, one of the crew members went directly into the pond to save it.

Impressively, the rescuers did not hesitate and went right into the ice-cold water of the pond, doing everything they could to save the animal.

After rescuing the goose, the crews handed the animal over to a wildlife rescue group that will help get the poor bird back to health.

It’s truly amazing to see this sort of brave action at work, but we would warn readers not to try and make such a daring rescue on your own. It is always best to contact a professional wildlife rescue organization, or the authorities, to help an animal in distress. If you ever find yourself in this situation, check out these animal rescue hotlines for a group that can help.
