The Energy Department says it is revising or canceling more than $83 billion in clean energy loans. According to The New York Times, $29.9 billion in Biden era commitments are canceled or being terminated. That reshapes an office built to help risky climate tech get financing.

The Trump team renamed it the Office of Energy Dominance Financing. It argues many approvals moved too fast late in 2024. But companies and towns made plans, and reversals can freeze new investment.

Sunnova lost a $2.92 billion partial guarantee and filed for bankruptcy soon after. Grain Belt Express then lost a $4.9 billion guarantee for a Midwest transmission line. Plug Power paused work tied to a $1.66 billion guarantee as green hydrogen incentives faded. Other cancellations have hit battery and recycling projects too.

A federal judge recently ruled the department illegally canceled seven energy grants in other programs. That ruling highlights a bigger issue: trust. When federal deals vanish, private money gets skittish, and projects stall.

The department says $53.6 billion in loans still move ahead, but with revisions. It also wants to steer more Support toward natural gas and nuclear power. It has kept big guarantees tied to restarting reactors in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Either way, it shapes the environment on our planet.

The loan office has always taken big bets, from Solyndra to Tesla. Now the stakes feel higher, because the climate crisis is already here.

Cleaner grids protect public health and ease pressure on wildlife and other animals. They also fit with daily choices, like eating more plant based meals and trying a vegan swap once a week. Keep pushing for clean power and kinder food systems that respect Earth and all living beings.
