Betty, a five-year-old golden retriever and Irish setter mix, has a story of resilience and transformation. Rescued from a slaughter truck in China at just four months old, she faced a grim fate. She was emaciated and plagued with numerous health issues, but her owner, Bonny Osterman, was determined to give her a second chance at life.

After a year of dedicated care and love, Betty has blossomed into a healthy and funny girl according to her human. With her lush coat of golden red fur, Betty’s heartwarming quirk is her love for stuffed toys. She carries a big stuffed toy everywhere she goes, parading down the streets with pride as people stop to take pictures. Betty’s journey doesn’t end there; she’s in training to become a therapy dog, spreading smiles and happiness wherever she goes. This glamorous girl truly deserves her spotlight on Newsweek.

Their feature on their readers’ furry friends also included a few other amazing pets like Kalu. Short for Kaluluwa, he resides with his owner, Michelle Duque, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His name, meaning ghost, spirit, or soul in Tagalog, perfectly encapsulates his playful and mischievous nature. Kalu has brought an abundance of fun and love to Michelle’s family!
