When a tornado ripped through Rowlett, Texas on December 28, 2015, it caused Michael Delgado’s house to completely collapse. Delgado’s own grandmother and brother had to be dug out from the rubble, according to Frank Lloyd Hettlinger, a friend of the family. With so much debris, it seemed all hope would be lost of finding their beloved pets, Sawyer and Lucy.
However, when rescuers arrived at the scene on December 28, they heard the whimper of the yellow lab, Sawyer and rescued him from the a wall in the kitchen. The family was incredibly lucky to find Sawyer, but little Lucy, a miniature Pinscher, was still nowhere to be found. The clean up crew worked all day to get through the debris and when they reached the very last pile, and then heard her cry. Wedged between wall studs, she had survived for two and a half days buried beneath the rubble. In the video above, Delgado pulls little Lucy out from beneath the pile and gives her the biggest hug of her life.
It’s clear Delgado is thrilled to have Lucy back and incredibly safe and sound. And so are we!
