A goat and a dog in North Carolina have gone viral for their adorable friendship at an animal shelter. The staff has caught Cinnamon, the goat, and Felix, the dog, snuggling together inside the kennel, and Director Dr. Jennifer Federico says that usually, you don’t see mixed species getting along like this. These two animals at the Wake County Animal Center have a special bond that is frankly unlike anything staff at the shelter has seen before.

“It shows things are possible and they don’t see the difference,” said Federico.
The pair will run around the playpen area together and chase each other around. Cinnamon, the goat, seems to be particularly attached to the pup and the goat will even whine or cry when the dog is taken away.
‘That’s not a normal combination,” said Federico. “Usually, we have dogs attacking goats so this is just a very unusual group.”
The pair reportedly came into the shelter in protective custody after their owner was hospitalized and eventually the two were surrendered to the shelter. Staff has said that the goat seems to be actually house-trained.
“These guys obviously have been raised together and spent a lot of time together,” said Federico.
“This is not the ideal environment for a goat to stay long-term,” said Federico. “Cinnamon is so attached to Felix, to just cold separate them, would not be humane.”
The shelter said that they hope to put them into a forever home together. Dogs and goats are playful by nature, and their playful behavior can help them build a rapport with each other. They may enjoy chasing each other around, playing with toys, or just running and jumping together.
