Inspiring Community Comes Together to Save Puppy Found With a Crushed Skull

Author Bio

I am a writer and illustrator living in Poland.

Josephina, a six-month-old Pit Bull mix puppy, was found abandoned on a sidewalk in horrible condition. Her skull was extensively fractured, but fortunately, she was discovered by just the right people and soon found herself in the care of Chester County Dog Tails. Now, she is finally in good hands and her caretakers are determined to give her a second chance at life, but in order to have it, Josie needs a lot of help.

Josie made it through her first night at the rescue, but her condition remains critical. Her skull was fractured “from blunt force trauma” in many places…

As her rescuers shared in a Facebook post, every breath Josie took caused the frontal bones of her skull to rise and fall and there was nothing separating her sinuses anymore. “The front of her beautiful face is shattered, and her brain is actually exposed in one place,” they wrote. “This so absolutely heart-shattering.”

Thanks to Noah’s Ark Rescue Project and Sanctuary, Josie was not going to end up in a shelter. Chester County Dog Tails started its best efforts to save the beautiful puppy. She was transferred to VSEC Philadelphia emergency hospital and is still fighting for her life, with the entire team now doing all they can.

Josie got a blue nose piece to hold her skull in place and prevent her face from further fractures. Despite the pain and trauma she experienced, Josie is “a total sweetheart” and wants all the love she can get. She deserves nothing less than a perfect happy ending to her story – and a chance to have a happy life in a loving home.

To fund Josie’s mounting medical bills, the rescue has launched a fundraiser that has already raised $8,000. The first 48 hours of the puppy’s stay at the hospital cost nearly $5,000 – and to have a chance to recover from her heartbreaking injuries, Josie urgently needs all the donations she can get.

The rescue is now also pursuing any leads that could uncover what happened to Josie and who is responsible for her pain. The team urges anyone with any information in the case to contact them.

You can help Josie by making a donation on her YouCaring page.
