This Tiny Carbon-Negative Eco Cabin, built by Michael Quirk, is a net zero carbon dream escape in the Nederland, Colorado, forest.
The tiny net zero cabin is built with only local and reused materials to make it an eco-friendly living experience. Quirk wanted to use simple and sustainable materials and highlight to other designers how the construction industry can rethink its building practices to help combat climate change.
Quirk built the cabin with hemp insulation and locally sourced wood varieties with energy-efficient qualities, Design Boom reported. He also installed solar panels for an off-grid renewable energy system and to keep a low carbon footprint.
Quirk built the Eco Cabin in just one year, and the majority of the carbon storage in the project comes from wood and hempcrete, and hemp wool insulation. Both inside and outside have been finished with a variety of woods. He also used samples of metal panels from his previous architecture projects.
