The 21-year-old artist’s green initiative, in partnership with environmental non-profit REVERB, is part of the Music Decarbonization Project she co-founded. A temporary solar farm will be set up at Grant Park, the festival’s venue, to charge batteries for Eilish’s performance.
This groundbreaking move aims to illustrate how clean energy solutions can dramatically cut carbon emissions from live music events. It’s a firm step towards reducing the industry’s dependence on environmentally harmful diesel generators, thus driving it towards a more sustainable future.
REVERB’s co-founder and co-executive director, Adam Gardner, sees this as a pivotal moment for the music industry. Showcasing this technology with a globally popular artist on a renowned festival stage could fast-track the transition toward a decarbonized future.
Eilish is no stranger to climate activism. She partnered with REVERB during her recent ‘Happier Than Ever, The World Tour,’ raising $116,000 for pro-climate non-profits through a bottle project. She also collaborated with her mother Maggie Baird’s non-profit ‘Support + Feed,’ to fight food scarcity and Climate change by providing plant-based meals to those in need.
The young pop star has voiced her pride in these initiatives and her fans’ Support, recognizing the urgency for her generation to act against climate change. These efforts have raised over $990,000 for non-profits, Environmental justice, and climate projects.
With her solar-powered performance at Lollapalooza, Eilish is setting an exciting precedent for other artists and the live music industry, showcasing how concerts can become a platform for advocating sustainable practices and solutions.
