Imagine what it must be like for abused and captive animals who get their first taste of freedom after being rescued. It’s pretty incredible to see their reaction, like these hens, who are shown in this video touching Earth for the first time.

Animal Place rescued these 500 hens from a battery cage farm. Previously, they had spent a year suspended above the ground in cages where they could not spread their wings. This is typical of battery hens. In fact, egg-producing hens are one of the most systematically abused animals in the world. They are confined for the entirety of their short lives to barren battery cages that house between five to 10 birds in a space that is less than the size of a standard sheet of paper.
