Like many animals, elephant calves share a strong bond with their mothers. However, this particular elephant might be a little too eager to stay close to her mother, tripping over herself (and her mother) just to keep up. We can almost hear the trumpets as “Mom, wait for me!”
Baby elephants are adorable – there’s not much of a question about that. But what is questionable is the future for this species. Not only are elephants faced with extinction due to the ivory trade, but they also often face abuse in the tourism industry as well as unnatural imprisonment in circuses or zoos.
This clumsy baby elephant reminds us that a natural life, free of captivity is important for these majestic creatures. If we want to keep elephants alive in the wild, we need to work harder now than ever to keep them safe for years to come.
