The Amazing Story of Patrick The Pitbull (VIDEO)

At just a year old, Patrick the pit bull was discovered malnourished and barely alive in a Newark, N.J., apartment dumpster. Someone had shoved him down the building’s trash chute and left him for dead. He was immediately taken to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, N.J., where he received some needed TLC. Because of his plight, New Jersey’s animal abuse laws got tougher, and, in August 2013, Patrick’s Law was passed to heighten animal abuse penalties.

Patrick’s story spread nationally and, on March 9, he won this year’s New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association’s (NJVMA) Animal Hall of Fame award. Patrick came to Garden State Veterinary Specialists on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day and received lots of love, although the staff did not think he would make it through the night. This lovable pit bull survived through St. Patrick’s Day and that’s how Patrick got his name.

“He looks like a completely different dog than from the first day we saw him,” said Dr. Kate Palmer, the pit bull’s primary veterinary specialist, in the video below.
