When Hope for Paws got an email from Bark n’ Bitches Dog Boutique’s store owner, Shannon about an abandoned Pit Bull in Los Angeles, they didn’t waste any time stepping in to help. Shannon told Hope for Paws that sadly, the dog’s family had moved out, leaving a bunch of trash on the sidewalk, including sweet Cinnamon. But thankfully, Hope for Paws (and animal lovers everywhere!) don’t see Cinnamon as trash.
Once considered “Nanny Dogs” because of their loyalty and gentleness, today Pit Bulls remain largely misunderstood because of irresponsible owners, sensationalist news stories, and a proliferation of myths. As a result, breed specific legislation (BSL) has popped up in cities across the U.S. and Canada, which restricts people from keeping this “breed” of dog. The stigma that marks Pit Bulls has also contributed to their rise in U.S. shelters. One in four of all animals brought into shelters are Pit Bulls, and their average euthanasia rate hovers at 93 percent across the board. This is absolutely heartbreaking knowing that each dog is an individual and hardly deserves to get lumped in with a negative stereotype.
We can all work to change this, luckily. As Cinnamon clearly shows, Pit Bulls can be nothing but love bugs who want to be your faithful companion. Please share this post to help dispel the myth about Pit Bulls.
If you or someone you know is interested in adding a four-legged companion to their family, Cinnamon is now up for adoption through Bark N’ Bitches. Let’s find Cinnamon the loving home she deserves!
