When Kellie Roman, a dedicated animal shelter volunteer, first encountered Margo, the pit bull was impossible to overlook. Weighing an alarming 120 pounds, Margo was the chubbiest pit bull Roman had ever seen, setting the stage for a remarkable weight-loss journey that would change Margo’s life.

Margo had been found stray, her staggering weight indicating a desperate need for intervention. Recognizing the magnitude of the challenge, Roman felt a personal calling to assist Margo in her journey towards a healthier life and decided to foster her through One Love Arizona.

The beginning of Margo’s transformation was slow and steady. Initial walks spanned no further than the neighboring house. As time passed, these strolls gradually extended, eventually reaching up to 2 miles daily. Coupled with a strict, veterinarian-recommended diet and treatment for her diagnosed hypothyroidism, Margo began to show significant progress.

However, the journey wasn’t always smooth. On tough days, Margo resisted movement, burdened by her excessive weight. Roman, understanding but firm, persisted, nudging Margo to keep going, knowing that every step taken was a leap towards better health and happiness.

Fast forward to today, and Margo is barely recognizable as the 120-pound pit bull from the shelter. She’s a sprightly dog full of zest, basking in her walks and her playtime with Roman’s dog, Barry. At a fit 63 pounds, Margo has not only achieved her target weight but has soared past it.
