Located in Krakow, Poland, Plantonia recently became the first fully vegan aparthotel in the country. Architectural firm krea.tina created a beautiful, animal-product-free design that transformed the former tenement building into lovely, luxurious accommodations. The building features 24 apartments which range from 25 to 68 square meters. Each apartment is equipped with a kitchen, facilitating longer stays.
Additionally, Plantonia has a variety of amenities for guests to enjoy. There are normal hotel amenities such as a gym, laundry service, and workspace. However, there are also special features including a vegan pantry, an eco-friendly library, and an inhalation room.
The design firm prioritized repeatability to ease the process of building. For example, although the kitchens are different sizes, krea.tina adapted aspects of the design to be repeatable throughout the different units.
The aparthotel is designed to be fully vegan. This means that not only are all of Plantonia’s food offerings vegan, but the design team also carefully selected building materials that are free of animal products and testing. A surprising amount of building materials, including adhesives, are derived from animals. The team also prioritized sustainability by reusing some fabrics, including carpets. They also chose sustainable materials such as climate-neutral marmoleum.
The result was a lovely, soothing space that guests can feel confident aligns with their values. According to the team at Plantonia, they created the space “with a focus on the planet and on sustainable travel”. The aparthotel also partnered with local bakery Zaczyn to offer three vegan breakfast options for guests.
Plantonia’s vegan and sustainable concept represents a growing sector of the travel industry that is committed to making environmentally friendly, ethical decisions. Rooms at Plantonia range from 270.75 PLN per night to 731.50 PLN per night.
