So, you’ve bought the organic baby food and found plenty of eco-friendly toys to entertain your mini Green Monster. Now the time has come to stock your bathroom with all the necessary baby products, and you’re trying to figure out which ones are best. This can be a difficult task! While some items are made with babies in mind, not all companies consider the safety of the planet, the health of consumers, or the welfare of animals when manufacturing their products. To keep your baby clean and green, it’s best to make purchases that tick all the eco-friendly boxes.
WHAT SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR?
Truly earth-friendly items should always be cruelty free. Look for products that are not tested on animals, and are free of animal ingredients. Most companies that have a cruelty-free policy will proudly state so on their labels, but you can always check directly with the manufacturer to clarify. Also, remember that natural and organic products often contain beeswax, which is animal-derived, so make sure to double check the ingredient list!
You also want to ensure that all products are free from parabens, pthalates, petrochemicals and sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). These harmful ingredients are absorbed into the body via the skin, and are commonly found in soaps, shampoos and skin-care products. In addition to being linked with numerous adverse health effects- including cancer and nerve cell damage– these toxic chemicals are damaging to the environment. What’s more, chemical additives are incredibly harsh on young, sensitive skin, which can result in irritation and eczema.
In the interest of protecting your child’s health, as well as that of the planet and all its inhabitants, we’ve come up with a list of 10 fantastic bath and skin care products for babies. From shampoo and soap to balms and sunscreen, everything you see on this list is animal-friendly, earth-friendly, and designed for tiny tots!
