Women in the U.S. are more likely to be injured or killed in car crashes. Research shows they face a 17% higher risk of death and are 73% more likely to suffer serious injuries in front collisions. Yet for more than 40 years, federal safety tests relied on crash dummies modeled on male bodies.
That is finally starting to change with the new THOR 05F female crash test dummy. However, one model is not enough. A 2023 Government Accountability Office report found that without dummies representing women, older adults, and heavier people, it is difficult to know if vehicles are truly safe for everyone. In a country built around cars, this gap puts millions at risk.
Every body deserves protection. Fair and representative safety testing supports public health and a safer environment for all communities. Sign the petition now to demand better crash testing for women. Sign the petition now and help push automakers to do better.
