After decades of suffering, a Florida judge has finally ordered the removal of an entire herd of horses from a suburban Boca Raton property. The animals were found severely emaciated, standing in mud mixed with feces, with infected wounds, overgrown hooves, dental disease, and untreated skin conditions. One horse had a massive wound reportedly infested with thousands of maggots. This was not hidden, and it was not new.
The same individual has faced more than two dozen animal cruelty charges over roughly 20 years, involving horses, dogs, and birds. Animals had been seized from this property multiple times since the late 1990s, yet the abuse continued. Once rescued and given basic care, the horses improved rapidly. One stallion gained nearly 100 pounds in just two weeks.
