A young woman in Georgia naturally miscarried at 19 weeks, leaving her bleeding and unconscious. After being rushed to hospital for life-saving care, she was allegedly arrested for how she dealt with the remains—despite no law dictating what someone should do after a miscarriage.
Authorities are using language in Georgia’s six-week abortion ban—passed after Roe v. Wade was overturned—to allegedly charge her under fetal personhood laws. But her miscarriage was confirmed to be natural, and the fetus was non-viable. No injury was found.
This could set a terrifying precedent: criminalising people for a private, traumatic medical event. One in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage—this is healthcare, not a crime.
We must act. Sign the petition now. Demand Georgia lawmakers repeal this cruel interpretation of the law. Speak out against the criminalisation of miscarriage. Sign the petition now.
