A powerful new rap anthem that has taken social media by storm: “Lotus for POTUS.” This vibrant track, created in collaboration with Event Rap, aims to rally Support for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign as it encapsulates the spirit and vision that her candidacy represents.
“Lotus for POTUS” features an incredible lineup of talent, including Queens rappers Jam Young and Lex Rush, Brooklyn’s Dex McBean, and Canadian science rapper Baba Brinkman. The song is further enriched by the mesmerizing sitar riffs from Neel Murgai, Artistic Director of Brooklyn Raga Massive, and lively hypeman vocals by Erik B for President. As a special touch, our Founder, Preeta Sinha, delivers a poignant Hindi monologue that bridges culture and advocacy.
We got to speak to Queens rapper Jam Young about this vibrant blend of activism and artistry, and his significant contribution to the anthem. His verse resonates with themes of sustainability, empowerment, and urges listeners to embrace a cleaner, healthier lifestyle.
Lotus for POTUS, Jam Young’s Verse:
*Loud and proud Kamala
Laughing to the White House
Activism as a lifestyle
That’s the right route
Sustainable living
Farm to table for children
Leaf by leaf
Tree by tree
Changing the planet for millions
We are one
Gotta stop all this “Gimme mine”
Lotus for POTUS
‘Til we Walz-ing to the finish line
Thank you Joe Letting her shine like a star
Don’t let ‘em tell you who you is
Just show them who you are*
In our interview, Jam Young reflected on the process of crafting these impactful lyrics, “Writing and recording this track was very enjoyable and gratifying. I love having a topic assignment and parameters to create within.” The collaboration with One Green Planet for this anthem was particularly inspiring for him. “They had some great ideas and themes they wanted to incorporate, so putting them together with my lyrics was a great push creatively.”
As he raps, “Sustainable living, farm to table for children, leaf by leaf, tree by tree, changing the planet for millions,” Jam Young emphasizes the importance of nurturing our environment and the next generation. He believes that a concerted effort can lead to a healthier planet for all. “I want the world to eat healthier and cleaner. I want fresh foods to be more accessible, especially for children and the youth,” he explained.
When it comes to choosing his candidate for president, Jam Young finds inspiration in Kamala Harris. “She represents the continued progress in America. Having a female president will show the world how we continue to be a leader in change,” he said passionately. He believes Harris will inspire others, especially women, to understand that there are no limits to their capabilities. As he echos Kamala’s sentiments in his verse, “Don’t let ‘em tell you who you is, just show them who you are.”
His lyrics resonate with a call to unity and perseverance: “We are one, gotta stop all this ‘Gimme mine.’ Lotus for POTUS, ‘til we Walz-ing to the finish line.” This sentiment reflects his belief in collective action and the power of community. He also gives props to her for picking Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential candidate.
Jam Young also drew inspiration from fellow artists who have bridged the gap between music and activism, citing J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar as favorites. “They actively strive to bring together communities and speak out against hate and violence,” he said. He also thinks that Lupe Fiasco, Common, Dee-1, Public Enemy, Tef Poe, and many underground artists do a fantastic job of speaking out about important issues in society.
“Music has always transcended language and culture. It connects us, and when I write, I am very intentional with the message,” he emphasized as he stated the power of music as a universal language.
Through his contributions to the Kamala Harris anthem, Jam Young exemplifies how music can be a powerful tool for change, inspiring listeners to embrace a healthier and more equitable future. As he concludes in his verse, “Thank you Joe, letting her shine like a star,” he captures the spirit of hope and a new way forward that for America, which would not be possible without Joe Biden.
”Lotus for POTUS” not only celebrates Kamala Harris but also calls for a collective commitment to activism and sustainable living.
