Bill Gates his writing a book about climate change, his publisher announced Thursday. “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” will focus on how to achieve net zero emissions.
Gates said he hopes to help “build the technologies, businesses, and industries to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.” Gates attended the United Nations Climate Summit in September on behalf of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation will work with the World Bank and European governments to provide small farmers with funds to adapt to climate change. The foundation funded $310 million of that.
Gates is the prolific philanthropist known for starting Microsoft. After retirement he started the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with his wife. The foundation focuses work on reducing inequity across the globe and is known for its global health and development work.
Gates is also known for his climate advocacy and comments. An avid reader, Gates publishes a blog, Gates Notes. In his blog he talks about books he’s reading and thoughts on global issues. There is a section in Gates Notes dedicated to climate change.
He is also part of the investment fund Breakthrough Energy Ventures. The fund works on creating clean energy through investment. The goal of the fund is to make sure all people can enjoy a “good standard of living…without contributing to climate change.”
Gates’s previous book was about his work at Microsoft. The book on climate change is scheduled for release in June 2020.
