Sustainable living can sometimes get complicated, and it can be easy to feel like you’re never doing enough. However, it’s important to keep in mind that small swaps can make a big difference. This TikTok video offers a list of eco-friendly ideas that will hopefully inspire you to get creative and make some changes!

Eco OG’s first eco-friendly tip is to buy damaged cans of food when you’re grocery shopping. Oftentimes, people avoid these because they don’t look as good, and they usually get thrown out. The second tip is to buy produce that’s not in plastic packaging and bring your own reusable produce bags.
Although when buying produce, most people reach for the plastic produce bags that are conveniently located all over the store, if you buy produce every week, that adds up to a total of 200 bags used for produce alone in one year! That might not seem like an incredibly significant number, but when you add up the amount of bags used by every person in the U.S., that number skyrockets. Instead, opt for a reusable cloth produce bag. Plastic produce bags may be free, but for a one-time cost, you can buy a set of reusable bags that come without the added cost to the environment.
The third tip is to reach for produce that’s on sale and about to be thrown away. These foods are perfectly good but most people avoid them because they don’t look as aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, when buying canned drinks, try and avoid plastic packaging and instead opt for the ones that come in cardboard packaging.
Once you start eliminating packing waste, especially plastic waste, from your life, you start to realize how much plastic is used in our society. It’s a massive problem that the majority of us don’t think twice about. Getting grocery shopping down is the first step, and when you are comfortable with the basics, you can start to think about other ways you can cut waste from your food routines.
