Hitting a living creature with your car and then just driving off is never okay. It’s not okay if it’s a human, but it is also still unacceptable if it’s an animal. It’s hard to imaging knowing you’ve just hurt an innocent puppy and then just fleeing the scene like nothing happened. Yet that’s what happened to sweet Olive, a six-month-old pitbull puppy.

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge (RBARI) were called to help Olive and with Jersey Pits Rescue, they saved her and are trying to help her recover. She had to be rushed to the hospital because she suffered head trauma from the horrible accident. Her eyes were swollen and she was limping, but RBARI shared on Facebook that through it all, her tail was still wagging and she was incredibly sweet to the rescuers.

Since then, they’ve shared an update about Olive. She is doing well and seems to be recovering as she should be. They are still monitoring her limp to make sure she doesn’t have soft “tissue injury or nerve damage,” and they’ve also shared that she has “a broken tooth and lacerations on her gums,” but is eating well.

Despite going through something extremely traumatic, she is “the perfect patient — loving and so sweet,” according to RBARI.

You can donate to RBARI to help with her care and recovery and to support them as they continue to save other animals in need like Olive.
