Heartbreaking footage was taken in Indonesia of animal traffickers stealing pet dogs from local families. The shocking clips show the group brutally beating the local dogs before stealing them to sell as meat.

The video was filmed by members of the Dog Meat-Free Indonesia (DMFI), a group dedicated to stopping the dog meat trade in the country. The clips show men trapping the dogs with long metal clamps, tightening them around their bodies and necks, then dragging them along the floor to throw them into a cage filled with other local dogs just stolen from their families.
The footage is hard to watch, and the poor dogs are extremely anxious and shaking, confused why they’ve been taken from their families and homes. The dogs are transported and thrown into a pit, where they are strung up one by one and beaten to death with clubs.
The dogs are whimpering and screaming in pain while these heartless men beat the defenseless pups without batting an eye. They then lay the dogs out on a block before burning their coats off with a handheld blow torch. Their carcasses are tied up and shipped off to wet markets to be sold as meat.

The video went viral and has caused an uproar all around the world. Many officials have contacted the Indonesian government to condemn this horrifying practice and call for the government to step in to end it.
Dog meat is often consumed in parts of the country because it is cheap. Only seven percent of the population consumes dog meat, but the horrifying trade affects the whole world’s health and safety.
An estimated one million dogs are killed for meat in Indonesia, and looking at Asia as a whole, the number significantly increases. The wet markets in North Sulawesi are one of the world’s biggest providers of dog meat. Dog traffickers in the area reportedly capture around 4,500 dogs every single month, according to DMFI.
Although some places in Indonesia have worked towards banning the dog meat trade, it is still widely legal and acceptable throughout most of the country. This practice is extremely cruel, and these dogs don’t deserve to be taken and exploited for profit. Sign this petition to demand the Indonesian government ban the trade and slaughter of dogs and consumption of dog meat!
