It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.

There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, which include protecting frogs from extinction, passing the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act, and ending cat dissection in schools!

Frogs are vital to many ecosystems not just as a food source for carnivorous predators, but as bio-indicators that indicate the health of their ecosystems. Many years ago, scientists noticed that frog populations were decreasing at alarming rates. A fungusBatrachochytrium dendrobatidis, or Bd, has killed off so many frogs in Australia, Europe, and the Americas that scientists have warned of an impending mass extinction.” Around 90 frog species are assumed to have disappeared and some frog populations have decreased by as much as 90 percent. Sign this petition asking the US government to dedicate the funds and resources to stopping this fungus from spreading anymore and reversing as much damage as possible.

Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon forces elephants to fill their trunks with soapy water, spray the car, and sponge down the car. This is not funny or cute. Elephants are forced into submission with bull hooks in order to perform silly, unnatural tricks like this. The park employees have actually been seen in photos and videos monitoring the elephants with bull hooks. This is completely cruel. Sign this petition demanding that they stop forcing elephants to give car washes!

A video went viral of a trainer at Dubai Dolphinarium that shows one of the “trainers” sitting on top of a dolphin outside of the water. This has rightfully sparked outrage because dolphins cannot even support their own body weight outside of water. As marine experts say, the trainer could have caused damage to his internal organs. This is only another terrible incident proving that dolphins do not belong in tanks. They should be in the ocean with their pod where they’d never suffer such abuse at the hands of humans. Sign this petition if you want the trainer to be charged with animal cruelty and to tell Dubai Dolphinarium that animal captivity is wrong! These dolphins should be sent to a marine sanctuary.

4. End Cat Dissection in US Schools!

Every year, millions of animals are dissected in schools across the United States. It’s a cruel and unnecessary practice. Many of these animals are actually cats… yes, the beloved felines we are used to seeing as part of our families. Investigations done by PETA found that cats were embalmed and taken from shelters, pet stores, and the streets. Dissection isn’t just cruel, it teaches children to have a callous attitude toward life. There are alternatives in this modern age, such as 3-D models and digital stimulations. Sign this petition if you want this horrible practice to end!

A street dog in Sabah, Malaysia was just doing what street dogs do — roaming and sniffing for food. A drunk “local” decided to chop off the dog’s snout “for fun” claiming the dog was begging him for food. The pain must have been immense and the veterinarians didn’t think the dog could live with such injuries. Sign this petition demanding that Sabah State Veterinary Services and Animal Industry Department find the cruel person who did this and punish them under the Sabah animal welfare enactment.

Over 73 million sharks a year are killed for their fins, according to the Animal Welfare Institute. Humans need sharks to survive, and marine ecosystems in general rely on sharks to thrive. We can’t allow them to go extinct, but also the shark fin trade is incredibly cruel. More than 200 restaurants in the US are still known to sell shark fin trade. The Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act of 2019 “will make it illegal to possess, buy, or sell shark fins or any product containing shark fins federally.” Sign this petition to tell Congress to pass this bill now!

Tikiri, is a 70-year old elephant suffering tremendously in Sri Lanka. She is so bony, she practically looks skeletal. But she is forced to work at the Perahera Festival in Sri Lanka where she walks from early evening until late at night for ten consecutive nights, surrounded by noise, fireworks, and smoke. Spectators don’t even realize how bony she is because she is covered by a costume. Recently, she collapsed and animal activists are worried about her health. She urgently needs medical care. According to this petition’s updates, an animal activist has been visiting and feeding her, but her ‘owners’ are still keeping her tethered to a very long cotton rope. Sign this petition if you want Tikiri to be freed!

A widely used class of pesticides, called neonicotinoids is one of the causes of their deaths.
