Despite all of the damage people do that harms wildlife and natural habitats, there always are others who devote their time and energy to counteract that harm.

In the above video, a group of divers patiently works to release a group of whale sharks who got caught in fishing nets. These gentle giants were so grateful to be freed they stuck around for a swim after being released! Simply breathtaking.

Sadly, these whale sharks are not the only ones who end up getting trapped as “by-catch” by the fishing industry. Whales, sharks, porpoises, and sea turtles regularly get trapped in fishing nets and are then callously discarded if they cannot be sold and are not profitable for the fishermen. Commercial fisheries harm the entire ocean ecosystem and contribute greatly to the rapidly dwindling populations of marine life.

We are so thankful for these kind divers who stepped in to help, and hope you will share this inspiring video with your family and friends as a reminder that the fishing industry harms more than just fish.
