It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.
There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including ending whale and dolphin captivity in the U.S., end chick culling, and banning animal pornography.
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. Justice for Family Dog Recklessly Killed With Truck by UPS Driver
Video caught on the Shipleys’ home security cameras show the family’s friendly dogs running and barking as the driver pulls in. He yells at them and drives away. A few minutes later, he recklessly speeds into the driveway and hits one of the dogs named Jazzy. He left Jazzy to die and never even bothered to knock on the family’s door. To make matters worse, there wasn’t even a packaged scheduled to be delivered to their home. Sign this petition which asks UPS to fire the driver who is unfit to drive in a community with children and pets and handled this situation all wrong.
2. End Whale and Dolphin Captivity in the United States
Last year, Canada made dolphin and whale captivity illegal. The bill they passed amends the criminal code to make it illegal to keep cetaceans in captivity. It will also ban their import and export of ALL marine mammals in Canada. The United States has far more facilities holding marine animals captive than Canada. It is time for the US government to follow in the footsteps of Canada and ban cetacean captivity nationally as well. Sign this petition and demand that the U.S. Congress end this practice now.
3. Ban Lion Farms and Canned Hunts
In South Africa, there are farms where lions are bred and kept in captivity to then be killed in cruel canned hunts. They’re enclosed in a space with no chance to escape while a person who pays an insane fee can kill them. According to one expose at one farm up to 54 lions were killed in just two days. And throughout South Africa, 12,000 lions have been bred in around 200 “farms.” People pay between $13,000 and $55,000 to kill a lion in one of these canned hunts. Sign this petition demanding that South Africa ban these lion farms and canned hunts!
4. Increase Animal Cruelty Penalties in Mississippi, “The Worst State for Animals”
This year, Mississippi has been named the worst state for Animals in America. Mississippi still has no felony laws for animal neglect or abandonment, veterinarians in the state aren’t required to report abuse, and there is no mandatory forfeiture of animals when the owner is convicted of animal abuse. Sign this petition asking Mississippi to make animal abandonment and neglect a felony in the Magnolia State.
5. Legal Loophole Allows Animal Pornography in Most States
In all but one state, it is legal to possess zoophilic pornography. Currently, the famously liberal state of Oregon is the only state jurisdiction where ownership of animal pornography is prohibited. in most states, it is already illegal to sell and distribute such videos. But for some strange reason, owning animal pornography is still legal. Sign this petition urging all other states to make ownership of animal pornography illegal.
6. Pass the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act
According to the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), over 73 million sharks a year are killed for their fins alone. The high death toll is devastating their population. Some species are now on the brink of extinction. Unfortunately, the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act of 2019 was never passed. But sharks can no longer wait. Sign this petition demanding that Congress reintroduce the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act and pass it now.
7. Ban Animal Abusers From Getting Pets
Tennessee is considering passing a bill that would prevent convicted animal abusers from owning a pet. It would “prevent anyone convicted of animal cruelty, abuse or other offenses against animals from owning a companion animal for at least two years after their conviction.” Sign this petition supporting this bill in Tennessee and contact your local representatives asking them to introduce this bill in your state too.
8. Stop Festival in Spain That Sets Horns’ Bulls on Fire
In some towns of eastern Spain there’s a tradition called “toros embolados” or “correbous.” These arebulls with flaming torches strapped to their horns that are released in the streets during traditional festivals. Seeing the fire so close to their eyes makes the bulls go mad. They try to escape from the horror they are suffering, but they have nowhere to run, experiencing enormous stress for a long time. Not only is this cruel, but it’s dangerous for people. In 2018, a man died after being crushed by an enraged bull. Sign this petition asking the Governments of Valencia and Catalonia to stop these festivals!
9. End Chick Culling
Chicken culling is the blending of live baby roosters deemed useless just because they can’t lay eggs. France and Germany have recently banned this horrific act, and the United States will hopefully soon follow. Eight billion rooster chicks are shredded yearly by this method, on a global scale and an estimated 40 million female ducklings are slaughtered this very same way yearly. Sign this petition demanding the end of chick culling!
10. Save Animals Suffering in Deplorable Conditions at Zoo in Sudan
Photos of Al Qurashi Family Park Zoo show animals in deplorable conditions. The zoo staff had apparently stopped caring for the animals because the country was in a serious economic crisis. The park’s lions particularly looked as if they were on their last legs and people the world over demanded action, even donating money to get them the help they needed. Luckily help was at hand thanks to global animal welfare organisation Four Paws. Since arriving on site the team has administered life-saving treatment to the animals and the initial signs are looking positive for their recovery. Sign this petition asking for the animals to be sent to sanctuaries!
