Animal Control Accused of Adopting Out Dog Despite Having His Family’s Contact Information

After escaping his family’s backyard, a golden retriever ended up being taken to the Chicago Animal Care and Control center. Despite Zeus having on a bright red color with his name and family’s contact information, the animal care and control center sent him to an animal rescue for adoption.

Karly Moran-West, Zeus’ owner, had been visiting someone when her dog got loose from her dad’s backyard. Upon hearing the news after a month, she began her own search, which concluded with someone giving her a tip about having seen Zeus on an adoption website.

The adoption agency gave Moran-West an explanation of how her dog was adopted, making no moves to help her get him back. They allegedly stated that they had no contact info, but Moran-West claims that Zeus clearly had a phone number on his collar.

Moran-West is now filing a lawsuit against the animal care and control center for not contacting her after finding Zeus in the hope of her getting her dog back from his new owners who refuse to give him up.

She said, “I understand that you guys have had Zeus for a long time, and you guys are probably very attached to him now, but I’ve had him longer, and he was my child. And if your child was adopted out to somebody else, I feel like you would probably do the same thing. So I feel like you guys should have a heart and give me back my dog.”
