A pitbull bull terrier mix is going home after 853 days at an Alabama shelter, WSFA12 news reported.
The East Alabama Humane Society received numerous requests for 4-year old Rutabaga after a story on her went viral. New owners, Jeremy Armstrong and Jessica Ventiere, were smitten with the dog.
“My husband saw it and knows I’m a terrible sucker for dogs,” she said, adding that she refused to read the article. “He read it to me. That was all it took,” Ventiere said. But she was also confident that Rutabaga had been adopted.
“There’s no way,” she said. “She’s probably been picked up and adopted already.” But she was still available!
After a week’s trial, it was clear Ruti had found her home. “It’s like she’s been with us the whole time,” Ventiere explained. “She came and fit right in. She’s just the sweetest thing. So full of personality, and just great.”
Ventiere gushed about Ruti and how she fit right into their existing family, animals and all.
“I’ve only ever had shelter dogs,” Ventiere said, “I’m a big advocate for rescue dogs. There’s something about them. They’re just the best dogs.”
