A viral TikTok video shows a dachshund playing an iPad game designed specifically for animal companions. Dubbed an “iPad dog” by commenters, Ollie the dachshund has captured hearts across the internet with his adorable interaction with the game.
@carma634 I’m going to need a new ipad #jollydog #whathaveidone
In the video, the 6-month-old Dachshund can be seen happily playing a game on his human’s iPad. The game features glowing, tadpole-like graphics that move around the screen. The “iPad dog” excitedly interacts with the moving images. Ollie pounces on the screen, causing the tadpoles to explode in a shower of sparks. Viewers loved the pup’s enthusiasm, although his human comically captioned the video “I’m going to need a new iPad.”
Apps designed to be played by animals use moving animations, special visuals, and noises to engage pets and encourage them to interact with the app. Some animals, like Ollie, may love to play these games. However, experts warn that apps cannot replace regular exercise, interaction, and mental stimulation. Like with humans, screen time should be limited. It is also advised that animal companions be supervised while playing games. As can be seen with “iPad dog” Ollie, some dogs and cats may become excited while playing with pet-focused apps. Supervision can help prevent them from injuring themselves or damaging devices.
Interaction with the TikTok video showed just how much people enjoyed watching the “iPad dog”. The video amassed a whopping 17.9 million likes and over 127 million views.
