TikTok Video Shows Just How Important Foster Homes Are for Shelter Animals

Scared brown poodle dog. Foster homes make difference scared shelter dogs

Although rescues and shelters provide invaluable services, they can be scary places for animals who are already experiencing lots of trauma and fear. With lots of unfamiliar noises and smells, many dogs do not have the opportunity to show their best selves while at a shelter. This is one of the reasons that foster homes are so important. Foster homes give animals a chance to relax, gain valuable socialization, and practice skills they will hopefully use in their forever homes.

As can be seen in a TikTok video posted by the account @noahsarkdogrescue, for some dogs, a foster home can make a world of difference. When Mischa, now known as Martha, and her siblings were found in a Romanian forest they were terrified of humans. Staff from the rescue they ended up at said that the pups were on their way to dying of hunger and cold. However, once at the shelter, Mischa continued to be scared of humans. She spent two years at the shelter. However, after staff posted a video of the terrified dog, one family knew they needed to help.

In the TikTok video, Mischa can be seen huddled in the corner of her kennel. Text overlay shares that the pup is going to her new foster family. Despite the good news, she looks terrified and withdrawn. A staff member gently puts a vest on her. Mischa needed a few shots before going home with her foster. However, after receiving veterinary care, she was set to meet them!

Mischa is introduced to her foster, and the household dog named Luna. She lies in the car’s back, unaware of what awaits her. The video then cuts to a clip of Mischa and Luna happily playing in a grassy yard. The difference between the once scared and withdrawn rescue dog is clear. In less than a day, she has become much more relaxed than at the shelter.

Viewers were amazed and overjoyed by Mischa’s transformation. They expressed admiration and thanks for her foster. “YOU GUYS ARE LITERAL ANGELS,” wrote one commenter.
