Bats are some of the more mysterious creatures in the world, possibly because of their nocturnal nature. But, these fascinating, misunderstood creatures play a crucial role in their ecosystem. Bats carry pollen further than any other animal, according to Merlin Tuttles Bat Conservation. Bananas, durian fruits, and tequila are all made from bat-dependent plants.

Bats use echolocation through high-pitched sounds so that they can fly through the night without hitting things. The human ear cannot hear these noises unless they are slowed down, like in the video above.

Bats have to move super fast to catch bugs. Through this slowed-down video, the human eye can see as the bat uses his tail to scoop bugs into his mouth.

Bats are nectar feeders, which means that they play an important part in making tequila. More specifically, the lesser long-nosed bat. This species followed the trail of cactus blooms between Mexico and the U.S., which helps create agave and tequila.

While some people may think of bats as pests themselves, getting rid of them could cause tons of problems with mosquito populations. In the Las Vegas Valley, bats are eating all kinds of bugs and even disease-carrying mosquitos.
