The plight of Turkey’s stray dogs has taken a dark turn with the introduction of legislation known colloquially as “The Massacre Law.” Historically, Turkey has been praised for its humane approach towards the estimated 4 million stray dogs within its borders. However, this new law permits the euthanization of dogs that are sick, disabled, or from banned breeds. Those not euthanized face relocation to city shelters, notorious for deplorable conditions.

Reports are already surfacing of stray dogs being subjected to inhumane deaths. They are being poisoned, beaten, shot, and even decapitated. This brutality is not only inhumane but unnecessary. We advocate for the Turkish government to rescind this cruel law and implement humane animal control practices such as sterilization and education to ensure the safety and well-being of both the community and the animals.

Act now—sign the petition to urge the repeal of this inhumane law. Share widely and help protect Turkey’s stray dogs. Every signature counts, so sign the petition today and be a voice for the voiceless!
