Disney claims it’s “retiring” three dolphins—Rainier, Calvin, and Malabar—from EPCOT. But instead of sending them to a peaceful sanctuary, the animals are allegedly being relocated to Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, where they’ll still be used for entertainment. This isn’t retirement—it’s just relocation under a new label.
In the wild, dolphins swim up to 60 miles daily, live in complex social groups, and thrive mentally. In captivity, they’re confined, bored, and sometimes even prescribed antidepressants due to stress. Dolphins deserve better than lifelong performance.
We must hold Disney accountable. This move doesn’t match their image of compassion or their stated commitment to animal welfare. These intelligent beings should live out their days in freedom, not under bright lights performing tricks.
