Grizzly Bear Fishing for Salmon

Tex the grizzly bear was a gentle, curious young animal who wandered onto Texada Island in May. Indigenous Nations – the shíshálh, Tla’amin, and Homalco – immediately stepped forward with a plan to relocate him safely. Instead of working with them, the government allegedly failed to act. Tex was shot and killed before he had a chance at a peaceful life.

This tragedy highlights the government’s lack of accountability and disregard for Indigenous-led solutions. British Columbia had already committed to align its laws with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Yet when Indigenous leaders offered a humane path, their voices were ignored.

Sign the petition now to demand a transparent investigation, justice for Tex, and real respect for Indigenous sovereignty. Together, we can ensure no more wildlife is needlessly lost.
