Newsweek Announces Its “Pets of the Week”

This week’s Pet of the Week honors goes to Festivus, a rescue dog from Virginia, who lives with Rebecca Faeder. Adopted from 2×2 Rescue in Merrillville, Indiana, Festivus has a special bond with Faeder’s three-year-old granddaughter, Ava. “He’s always gotten along with Ava,” Faeder shared with Newsweek. A heartwarming video shows Festivus and Ava lounging on the couch together. When he’s not with Ava, Festivus enjoys car rides, watching TV, and playing with Faeder’s other grandchildren.

The first finalists are Cricket and Goob, Chihuahua mix siblings from Utah owned by Dan Whitaker. Their favorite activities include car rides, outdoor play, and enjoying treats. “They’re just so cute and sweet and full of love,” Whitaker said. “They mind us well and are very smart, knowing little things that we’re doing or are going to do without telling them. They’re just like little kids—sometimes frustrating, but always adorable and sweet.”

Another finalist is Larry, a clever ginger and white cat who delights in tricking his owner, Christine Eaton, into giving him treats. “He makes me laugh with his clever tricks for getting treats,” Eaton explained.
