Unique Indoor Cat Who Prefers Furniture Over Mice Wins Newsweek Pet Competition

Cats often bring their humans “presents” in the form of rodents or birds, but Monkey, the indoor cat, breaks the mold by choosing a more unconventional gift—random pieces of furniture. This quirky behavior has earned Monkey the title of “Newsweek Pet of the Week.”

Miguel and Michelle Gilly, Monkey’s humans, say that Monkey’s indoor lifestyle has nurtured this amusing habit, much to the delight of his owners. Miguel shared with Newsweek, “Instead of bringing us gifts of rodents or birds, he chooses to bring us random furniture.”

In a shared video sent directly to Newsweek, Monkey’s dedication to his peculiar hobby is evident as he diligently drags his chosen furniture pieces, wrapping something around them before presenting them to his amused owners. Describing Monkey as “such a character,” Miguel expressed the love they have for their unique feline companion.

Among the other finalists vying for the title was Creed, a playful French bulldog with clear preferences in food and activities. Also in the spotlight was Drayley, a pampered pup who believes she’s royalty and insists on commandeering all blankets in the household.
