Police in Adams County, Pennsylvania, are seeking public assistance to identify two people seen on video leaving eight cats in a taped plastic tub at the doorstep of a local animal shelter. The incident took place on Saturday evening, shortly after 7 p.m., at the Forever Love Rescue’s Kitty Corner Gettysburg shelter.
Surveillance footage shows a man stepping out of the passenger side of a dark-colored Chevy SUV. He proceeds to open the back door, retrieves a large plastic tub, and places it at the shelter’s entrance. Inside the tub, eight cats, including two adults, two older kittens, and four babies, were tightly confined. The animals were left outside in freezing temperatures overnight, with no shelter from the cold.
The shelter, already operating at full capacity, was forced to make additional space for the abandoned cats. While the cats did not appear to be injured, the shelter expressed outrage on social media, calling the act “absolutely heartless and unacceptable.” They emphasized that abandoning animals is not tolerated and is clearly prohibited by signage near the drop-off area.
Leaving animals without care is illegal in Pennsylvania, where laws prohibit mistreatment, abandonment, or abuse of animals. Violations can result in penalties ranging from fines to jail time, depending on the severity of the offense.
Forever Love Rescue and local police urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Tips can be directed to the Kitty Corner Gettysburg or Gettysburg Borough Police Officer Orth at worth@gettysburgpa.gov or 717-334-1168.
