Bolivian Locals Caring for Animals Affected by Wildfires

In the face of a devastating year marked by wildfires scorching approximately 3 million hectares of Bolivian land, President Luis Arce has issued a plea to the international community for assistance. The wildfires have particularly ravaged the mountainous region of San Buenaventura in the northwest, home to a significant portion of the Amazon rainforest.

The fires have not only left a trail of destruction but have also exposed Bolivia’s diverse wildlife to the harsh realities of the fires. Rilvert Salinas Pariamo, a resident of the affected area, conveyed the multifaceted challenges faced by the community, stating, “They have affected us in many ways. Our crops, animals, and forests bear the scars of rising temperatures.”
