“Anatomy of a Fall’s” Four-Legged Star Impresses at Oscars’ Luncheon

In the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, sometimes it’s not the human actors who steal the spotlight, but rather their furry co-stars. This rings true for Messi, the talented Border Collie who portrays Snoop in the Oscar-nominated film “Anatomy of a Fall.” Recently, Messi made his way from France to Los Angeles, where he enchanted celebrities and stole hearts at the Academy Award Nominees Luncheon. Messi’s presence at the prestigious event sparked joy among attendees, including Ryan Gosling, who couldn’t resist greeting the adorable movie star.

In “Anatomy of a Fall,” directed by Justine Triet, Messi takes center stage. The film follows the story of Sandra Voyter, portrayed by actress Sandra Hüller, as she faces trial for her husband’s death. Amidst the media frenzy, Sandra’s blind son Daniel, accompanied by his guide dog Snoop, becomes the sole witness to the tragic event.

During the Oscars’ luncheon, Sandra Hüller emphasized the significance of Messi’s role, stating, “The only innocent creature in the film is the dog.” Indeed, Messi’s portrayal of Snoop adds depth and emotion to the narrative.

While Messi may not clinch an Oscar himself, his stellar performance earned him recognition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where he received the prestigious Palm Dog Award. This accolade celebrates outstanding canine performances in featured films, highlighting Messi’s undeniable talent and contribution to the cinematic landscape.

Laura Martin Contini, Messi’s human/trainer, revealed the bond that formed between the furry actor and his human co-stars during the film’s production. Messi spent 22 shoot days on set, endearing himself to the cast and crew. Contini emphasized the importance of fostering a close relationship between Messi and Milo Machado Graner, the young actor who portrays Daniel, ensuring that Messi felt loved and cared for throughout the filming process.
