Daisy, a 14-year-old Shih Tzu-poodle mix, lost her sight seven years ago but recently rediscovered the joy of running during a heartwarming trip to the beach. Her owner, Faye Louise Dennis, shared a touching video on TikTok on April 25, capturing the moment Daisy ran freely along the sandy shore. Set against a stunning sunset with the sea glistening in the distance, the video has since garnered over 1.8 million views.

The video, captioned “When your blind dog who hasn’t run in years feels safe to at the beach,” shows Daisy confidently running down the quiet beach, free from any obstacles. This newfound confidence came as a surprise to Dennis and her family, who hadn’t seen Daisy run since she went blind and lost her canine companion, Ramsey, who used to guide her.
Dennis, a 24-year-old manicurist from England, said that Daisy’s running was a shock to the family. “She’s a very slow walker, and sometimes we have to push her in a dog buggy if it’s too much of a long walk for her. However, she seems to remember the feeling of the sand under her paws, and I think she pictures the beach in her mind and she knows that there won’t be anything she can bump into,” Dennis explained.
Caring for a visually impaired pet requires patience and love. According to the Humane Society of the United States, animals that lose their sight may feel vulnerable and anxious. To help, owners should create a consistent routine and a safe, comfortable home environment. This includes sticking to a schedule, covering sharp corners, blocking off stairs, and removing unexpected obstacles. The Humane Society also suggests using a ‘bumper’ or ‘halo’ harness to help pets avoid bumping into objects.
Daisy’s blindness began with cataracts forming in both eyes at the age of 7. Despite the family’s efforts, her condition worsened, leading to the removal of one eye, and eventually, the other. Dennis noted that the second surgery significantly improved Daisy’s quality of life. “It’s given her a new lease of life as she’s no longer in pain and is one very happy doggy,” she said.
The response to Daisy’s beach video on TikTok has been overwhelmingly positive. One user commented, “I have a blind Frenchie baby and I get all wet-eyed when he starts running in free space,” while another said, “Can I just come on this app one time without crying?” Others urged Dennis to take Daisy to the beach as often as possible, with one person writing, “Doggie wasn’t running. Doggie was flyin’.”
Dennis called the reaction on TikTok “amazing,” expressing gratitude for the opportunity to showcase Daisy’s resilience and happiness. “Daisy is such a sweetheart and it’s been amazing to show how dogs are so resilient yet happy,” she told Newsweek.
Daisy’s story is a poignant reminder of the joy and resilience of animals, even in the face of significant challenges. Her moment of freedom on the beach not only touched the hearts of millions but also highlighted the deep bond between pets and their owners.
