You probably remember Syria’s “cat man of Aleppo,” he is hard to forget. Mohammad Alaa Aljaleel became famous for saving animals throughout the war in Syria, looking after more than a hundred stray and abandoned cats, staying with them until the very last second before he had to flee for his own life. In his makeshift sanctuary, he provided them with food, emotional Support, and would even send their pictures to their heartbroken guardians. In Syria, the war has driven many to flee the country in search of safe refuge, and not every family can bring their furry pals along. Aljaleel spent a few months in Turkey, but now he is back in Syria, working to rebuild his sanctuary for homeless cats.
Aljaleel is an ambulance driver and last month he found a hungry dog hiding in an open field. When he approached the dog, he got a nice surprise … 15 cute puppies! He may be called the “Cat Man of Aleppo” but of course Aljaleel helped the canine family.
As you can imagine, the cost of rebuilding his animal sanctuary, as well as feeding 15 growing puppies every day can really add up. To stay up to date on Aljaleel and his mission, you can follow his Facebook page and make a donation.
It’s truly awe-inspiring to see how Aljaleel is lending a hand to animals in dire need. Share this post with your friends to show that even in the midst of tragedy, there is hope!

Animals also are casualties of war. Thank you Aljaleel for your bravery and compassion and for taking action to save these precious lives.
