This Sanctuary Saw Their Senior Horses Struggling With Arthritis, So They Did Something Brilliant

It is no secret that horses, like all animals, suffer from illnesses and ailments just the same way as we do. As they age, many face diseases like arthritis and rheumatism. This is the case with a number of older horse residents at The Gentle Barn, a rescue and rehabilitation organization located in Santa Clarita, CA.

Founded in 1999, the rescue is a home to over 170 animals, all of them rescued from living in terrible conditions and being subjected to abuse. The people working at the rescue not only save numerous animals and offer them shelter, love, and necessary medical care, but they also extend their mission to educating and inspiring others to help make the world around us a better place. With this mission in mind, The Gentle Barn goes above and beyond to provide the best care possible to their elderly patients, most recently, they treated their horses to quite the special treatment.

The senior horse residents struggling with arthritis were in for a treat that benefited them immensely – an acupuncture session.

Acupuncture has the same effect on horses as it has on people, and is very helpful for relieving the horses’ arthritis pain.

It immediately made the senior horses at The Gentle Barn feel more comfortable and helped them move around more easily.
