Elephants are one of nature’s most awe-inspiring creatures. With their impressive size and dexterous trunks, they epitomize what African wildlife is all about. Unfortunately, the elephants are in terrible trouble. Every 15 minutes an African elephant is killed for its ivory. The situation has reached epidemic international proportions, potentially threatening the life of every elephant in Africa. If we do not get lawmakers involved in protecting them now, the species may not last another ten years.
Videos like this one, showing a special bonding moment between mother and calf, illustrate how intelligent and social these herd animals really are … it also reminds us that they are worth saving!
South Africa’s massive Kruger National Park is one of the last places to see African elephants in a protected natural habitat. Unlike to poor caged animals at the zoo or the traumatized circus elephants, the elephants at Kruger National Park are wild and allowed to run free – along with Africa’s other top four favorites: lions, leopards, rhino’s, and buffalo.
While the mother elephant comes to the rescue of the baby in this video, it is up to all of us to come to the rescue of the elephant. Share this video and inspire other to speak out for this incredible species.
