free online course to kick off the summer.
Teaching children how to respect nature and how to care for plants and animals is such a crucial step in shaping the future eco and animal heroes of our world. The Roots & Shoots program teaches children the fundamentals of Conservation, effectively empowering them to take the skills they have learned and start their own Conservation projects in their communities.
The online course is being offered to adults as a “professional development” course, teaching them how to mentor young people to foster a love of their natural environment. Using mapping techniques, students can draw out their own environment, identifying natural life in places they may have never thought to look before. Using a map, children can connect the stream that runs through their backyard to a river in the center of town and connect all the dots to their larger watersheds. This is just a single example of how the program works to give children insight into how their own world connects to the larger world ecosystem that surrounds them.
The Roots & Shoots program has inspired hundreds of children to make a positive change in their community. It’s never too early to plant a seed that will one day lead to a life filled with a love of nature and understanding of the balance of the world we live in.
