Rats often get a bad reputation for being dirty, creepy creatures. With the exception of Remy from Ratatouille, all the rats that we know from cartoons and TV live in sewers or in labs and as a result we assume that this is where these animals “belong.” But most people don’t realize that these animals are much more than this.
In fact, rats are highly intelligent and emotional animals, making them pretty great companions for people. Rats are very friendly, incredibly curious and social critters – just like cats and dogs – PLUS they can even learn tricks and solve complex puzzles.
The girl in this video is no stranger to the many amazing qualities that rats possess and has even adopted a rat as her own four-legged best friend! Watching these two play peek-a-boo might just be the sweetest thing we’ve ever seen.
Remember, you can never judge an animal by its stereotype!

As cute as this video is, it is still essentially a wild animal and should be treated as such.
This rat is a domesticated rat, not a wild rat.
Dogs were once wild; now they are great pets and companions. Rats have been pets for a long time and they are wonderful, intelligent companions. If you get a chance, read "Tatti Wattles, A Love Story" by Rachel Rosenthal, it\’s about an artist who adopts a rat who becomes an amazing companion and fellow performance artist!! it\’s beautiful and touching.
